There are three common reasons why a license activation may fail. Find the error message that matches your situation below.
“Invalid License”
This means the serial number was not recognized. The most common causes are:
- A typo in the serial number — check carefully for easily confused characters (see our FAQ: “What is an Invalid License error?” for a full list)
- A leading or trailing space — if you copied and pasted your serial number, make sure there are no extra spaces before or after it
- The wrong license version for your software — a SoftRAID 5.x license (25 digits) cannot be used with SoftRAID 6, 7, or 8
“The serial number you are trying to use is already in use on another computer”
Your license is currently active on another computer. To move it to this computer, you first need to deactivate it remotely:
- Visit the License Management page.
- Enter your serial number
- Click Deactivate next to the active seat you want to free up
- Return to SoftRAID and activate your license on this computer
You can deactivate and reactivate your license as many times as needed.
“Activation Error”
This means SoftRAID could not reach the activation server — usually due to a network or internet connectivity issue. If this persists, use offline activation instead. See our FAQ: “What is the Activation Code?” for instructions.
