An “Invalid License” error means the serial number you have entered is not compatible with the version of SoftRAID you are running.
First: Check for typos
Before anything else, double-check that you have entered your serial number correctly. Certain characters are easy to confuse when typing:
- The letter I and the number 1
- The letter O and the number 0 (we catch this one automatically)
- The letter G and the letter C
- The letter B and the number 8
- The letter L and the number 1
If you have your serial number in an email or text document, we recommend using copy and paste rather than typing it manually — this eliminates the possibility of a typo entirely.
How to identify your license version
- 25 digit serial number: This is a SoftRAID 5.x license. SoftRAID 5.x licenses are not compatible with SoftRAID 6, 7, or 8, and there is no upgrade path available.
- 20 digit serial number starting with “SR”: This is a SoftRAID 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x license. If you are still seeing an invalid license error after checking for typos, your license may need to be upgraded to the current version.
What to do
If you have a 20 digit serial number starting with “SR”, visit the License Management page to review your upgrade options.
If you have a 25 digit serial number, you will need to purchase a new SoftRAID license.
