How do I change my RAID volume to a different RAID level?

No, you cannot convert between RAID levels without data loss. To change RAID levels, you must delete the existing volume and create a new one, which will erase all data.

Before you begin:

  • Back up all data from the volume to another storage device
  • Ensure you have enough space to restore your data after creating the new volume

Steps to change RAID levels:

  • Open SoftRAID and select your volume tile
  • Disable Safeguard protection:
    • Choose Volume menu → Disable Safeguard
    • This allows you to delete the volume
  • Delete the existing volume:
    • Choose Volume menu → Delete Volume
    • Confirm the deletion
  • Create the new volume:
    • Choose Volume menu → New…
    • Select your drives
    • Choose your desired RAID level (RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 1+0)
    • Complete volume creation
  • Restore your data from your backup

Important: This process is data destructive. All data on the original volume will be permanently erased. Always verify your backup is complete before proceeding.
