Does SoftRAID support RAID 6?

Yes. RAID 6 and RAID 6+ are available now in SoftRAID 9.

RAID 6 provides dual parity protection, allowing a volume to survive two simultaneous drive failures. This differs from RAID 4 and RAID 5, which survive one. It also covers the failure that catches people out most often: a second drive failing during the rebuild of the first, when every remaining drive is under its heaviest sustained load.

RAID 6 is particularly popular with users who have more, larger capacity drives, such as in an eight-drive enclosure, who can afford to dedicate two drives to parity for maximum data protection.

RAID 6+ is a SoftRAID-unique feature. It gives the same two-drive fault tolerance, but keeps parity on dedicated drives rather than distributing it across every member, similar to RAID 4. That suits SSD arrays, where concentrating parity writes rather than spreading them across all disks can sustain higher performance.
