Yes, you can create a volume across multiple enclosures. The only limitation with SoftRAID is 16 drives per volume. Example: Two ThunderBay 8 enclosures can be daisy-chained to create a 16-drive RAID volume.
Important: Both enclosures must remain connected and powered on at all times for the volume to mount. Disconnecting or powering off either enclosure will prevent the volume from mounting properly (except a correctly configured RAID 1+0 volume, which can mount with up to half the drives missing).
