What happens when I validate a mirror volume?

SoftRAID validates a mirror volume by reading every sector from each disk in the volume and comparing them to ensure all disks contain identical data. If a mismatch is found, SoftRAID will correct all affected blocks on the volume’s disks so the mirrored data is consistent across all disks. The SoftRAID application displays a count of Blocks Updated in the volume tile – this is the number of mismatched blocks that were corrected during the validation.

Since each disk can be used for more than one volume, only the portions of the disk that contain the actual volume being validated are checked.

Validation runs in the background. You can continue to use your volume normally while validation is in progress. Depending on the size of your volume, validation may take some time to complete.

If a mirror volume has been validated successfully, you are guaranteed that all disks in that mirror volume contain identical data.
